Has music intonation an inherent expressive aspect? How we really know if we are in tune? Does the perfect tuning or ideal intonation actually exist? The purpose of this study is to analyze violin performance from intonation accuracy point of view. Fifteen violin per-formances (same melody played by 5 different violinists) are analyzed in order to know the Equal Temperament (ET) deviations. At the second part of the research, six sub-jects (professional violinists, other musicians and non-musicians) were asked to judge intonation accuracy in the performances of the same Corelli’s melody and to order the registers according to their intonation preference. The results showed that the recordings had deviations from ET- no tuning system was perfectly acceptable – and the widest deviation performance was preferred by violinists and non musicians.
